A title deed in Northern Cyprus is a document that confirms ownership, indicating the number of the land plot (in the land registry), the size of the plot, the buildings on the plot, the name of the owner, etc.
CLASSIFICATION OF TITLES
Turkish title (Turkish title) – land that previously belonged to a Turkish Cypriot before 1974. In the property documents received for lands with Turkish title, there will no longer be an indication of the land title. The reason for this is that all the land officially has the title of land of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Exchanged – land previously owned by a Greek Cypriot and resulting from the land exchange between Greek and Turkish Cypriots in 1974. The right to this land is guaranteed by the government of the TRNC and Turkey.
TMD – is a land owned by the SK government. This land was given as a reward to Turkish soldiers who took part in the 1974 war. The likelihood of any problems with this land is extremely low (there are no known precedents in the country’s history).
Leasehold – is government land that is intended only for lease for a period of up to 49 years, with the right to extend.
Having a title deed will give you complete freedom in case of selling or re-registering your property. You will not need to contact the owner of the land (whose signature is required in the new purchase and sale contract) if the titles have not yet been received or transferred. Always remember! The Government of Northern Cyprus and Turkey are the guarantors of the inviolability of property rights in the territory of the TRNC.
